Instructors

Alexis

Alexis has been swimming since before she learned how to walk and competed on several youth swim teams. She taught her younger brother how to swim and has several years of childcare experience as a babysitter. She is currently going to school to study film and some of her hobbies include baking and crafting. She is excited to see each student's progress.

Alex

Alex has been swimming since he was 9 years old and swam on his high school's swim team for 1 year. He has childcare experience as a private tutor for 1.5 years. He goes to school at UC San Diego and some of his hobbies include going to the gym and playing basketball. He is excited to teach his students the basics of swimming.

Andres

Andres has been swimming since he was 4 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. He has childcare experience as a babysitter and as a tutor. He goes to school for biomedical engineering and some of his hobbies include hiking and listening to music. He is excited to see each student's swim progress.

Anissa (sub)

Anissa swam on her high school's swim and water polo teams for all 4 years and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the breaststroke. She has previous experience working in the water as a lifeguard for a water park and taught swim lessons for 2 years to kids and adults of all ages. Some of her hobbies include hiking and camping and she has a passion for environmental protection. She has a passion for helping her students master their swim skills.

Antionette

Toni’s mother taught her how to swim when she was four years old and had previously taught at Waterworks for one year. She goes to school at CSU LA where she is majoring in kinesiology and has taken education courses. She enjoys going to the beach, being outdoors and exercising. She likes to help her students become safe and comfortable in the water and show parents what their child is capable of. Her favorite food is pizza and her favorite animals are dogs.

Ashley S.

Ashley has been swimming since she took swim lessons at 8 years old. She has childcare experience as an elementary school volunteer for 1 year. She goes to school at Pasadena City College where she is studying elementary education. She is excited to help her students improve their swim skills.

Ashley Z.

Ashley learned how to swim when she was a young child. She goes to school at CSU Dominguez Hills where she is studying human services and has taken child development courses. Some of her hobbies include reading, watching anime and trying new foods. She would describe herself as patient and her favorite animals are elephants. She is excited to her student’s progress and confidence grow in the water.

Avery

Avery began swimming at a local swim club in his hometown at just 2 years old. He went on to swim competitively for over 9 years on a club team, a recreational team and for his high school's swim team. He has experience teaching kids of all ages how to swim at his first swim club and taught at our Waterworks Alhambra location for 3 years. Additionally, he has helped teach at a vacation bible school as well as babysitter for his neighborhood. He goes to school at PCC where he is studying environmental science. In his free time he enjoys running, reading and watching movies. His favorite movie is The Lion King and his favorite book is The Kite Runner. He is excited to teach his students his favorite stroke which is the backstroke.

Briana

Briana has been swimming since she was 3 years old and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has childcare experience as a bible studies summer camp counselor. She is going to school to study animation and some of her hobbies include crafting and crocheting. She is excited to share her skills with her students.

Brian

Brian has enjoyed swimming throughout his life, so much that he taught his younger brother and friend how to swim. He also has experience babysitting children ages 1-12. He is excited to teach swim lessons because he gets the chance to work with children of varying ages and abilities. Brian is currently attending Pasadena City College and is focusing his studies on Kinesiology. In his free time, he enjoys biking, hiking, swimming and working on cars.

Cameron

Cameron has been swimming since he was in elementary school and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. He has experience teaching other students how to swim in high school and has childcare experience as a volunteer for autistic students. He goes to school at Pasadena City College and some of his hobbies include playing piano and learning Chinese. He is excited to help his students build their confidence.

Christina (sub)

Christina has been swimming since she was a toddler and started swimming competitively in high school for both the Varsity swim and water polo teams. She continued to competitively swim in college and trained to become a lifeguard. She has experience working with kids as an after-school teacher and a preschool teacher. She goes to school at Cal State Fullerton where she is studying child development. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, going camping and hiking. Her favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast and her favorite animals are pigs. She is excited to help her students become more confident in the water.

Claudia

Claudia began her swimming endeavors when she was a child. Later, she joined her school’s swimming team until she was 14 years old. Her favorite swimming stroke to teach is Freestyle. Claudia is most excited about being able to help her students learn the importance of water safety, as well as be able to hone their swimming abilities. Claudia wants her students to have fun in the water while also being water safe.

Cody

Cody started swimming at age 5 and his favorite stroke is the Breaststroke. He has experience working with children ages 5 to 8 as a babysitter. His favorite part about teaching swim lessons is helping his students learn a skill they will use for the rest of their lives. Cody is currently studying Journalism at Rio Hondo College. An interesting fact about Cody is that he loves sports!

Daniel

Daniel has been swimming since he was 4 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the backstroke. He has childcare experience as an instructor for a kid's robot and programming class and as a camp instructor. He has previous experience working with children with special needs. He goes to school at UC Santa Cruz where he is studying computer science. Some of his hobbies include baking and hiking. He has a passion for helping others learn new skills.

Daveon

Daveon has been swimming since he was 3 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. In addition to swimming, he has experience in boxing, rock climbing and football. He has experience working with kids as a babysitter. Some of his hobbies include photography, rock climbing and exploring. His favorite food is ravioli and his favorite animals are german shepherds. His favorite thing about teaching swim lessons is seeing his students improve.

Detlef

Detlef swam on club teams for 7 years and swam for his high school’s swim team. His favorite stroke to teach is breaststroke and his favorite event is the medley. He trained with the Red Cross as an instructor and was a merit badge instructor for the boy scouts. He has 5 years of experience working as a lifeguard and taught swim lessons for 6 years. He is very creative and likes to practice graphic design. He enjoys reading the Lord of the Rings books and his favorite animals are cats. He is excited to fine tune his student’s swim technique.

Dezi

Dezi has been swimming since she was 8 years old. She has experience teaching her younger family members how to swim and has childcare experience as a daycare teacher for 2 years. Some of her hobbies include film and playing sports. She is excited to work with kids of all ages.

DJ

DJ began swimming at the age of four with a local city team and continued for 6 years. His favorite stroke is Freestyle. DJ previously worked as a lifeguard for two years, starting when he was 16 years old, where he gained experience working with children of all ages and skill levels. In addition, he has helped raise many of his younger cousins and siblings as he is the eldest child. He is looking forward to making connections with his students, and watching them learn and develop as swimmers! DJ currently attends Pasadena City College to major in Film. In his free time he enjoys playing football, baseball, paintball and video games.

Domonique

Domonique has been swimming since she was 6 years old. She has a passion for helping others and is excited to help her students achieve their swim goals.

Dom

Dominique has been swimming since he can remember. At the age of fourteen he joined the Junior Lifeguard Program and continued for two years. In addition to swimming, he has played almost every sport and currently continues to play baseball and football. He has experience working with children through coaching baseball and working as a lifeguard. In his free time, he enjoys woodworking, smithing, barbequing, cooking, baseball, football, and fishing. His favorite movie is Iron Man 2 and his favorite animals are huskies. He is most excited to see his students reach their swimming goals and succeed as swimmers.

Elle

Elle learned how to swim when she was 4 years old by taking swim lessons and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has taught several children how to swim and worked at a summer camp. Additionally, she has childcare experience as a babysitter and religious youth teacher. She goes to school at Pasadena City College where she is studying political science. Some of her hobbies include being outdoors and staying active. She is excited to help her students achieve their goals.

Elysa

Elysa learned how to swim by taking swim lessons when she was three years old. Her favorite stroke to teach is freestyle and her favorite events to swim are breaststroke. In high school, she played competitive basketball for Arcadia High School. She has taught her friends and family, ranging in ages 5-40, how to swim. She has worked with kids by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, summer day camps and after school programs. She goes to school at Mt. San Antonio College where she is studying business administration. She enjoys hiking and her favorite animals are dogs. She is excited to see her student’s progression in the water.

Emilio

Emilio has been swimming since he was 6 years old. His favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. He earned a swimming merit badge in the boy scouts and played baseball on his high school's varsity team. He has experience working with kids as a church youth leader. He goes to school at CSU Fullerton where he is studying finance. Some of his hobbies include working out, hiking and fishing. His favorite book is Dune and his favorite food is Mexican food. He is excited to make an impact on his students.

Ena

Ena has been swimming since she was 5 years old and swam competitively in high school for 3 years and her favorite event to compete in is the 100 free. She has experience working as a lifeguard and has worked with kids as a children's ministry volunteer. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and reading. Her favorite movie is The Notebook and her favorite animals are dogs. She is excited to teach her student's lifesaving swim skills.

Gaby

Gaby has been swimming since she was 7 years old and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has 3 years of childcare experience including as a tutor. Some of her hobbies include hiking and painting. She is excited to help her students improve their swim skills.

Gage

Gage has been swimming since he was 6 years old and his favorite stroke to teach his students is the freestyle. In addition to swimming, he has participated in sports like snowboarding, boogie boarding and skim boarding. He has experience working with children with special needs. He goes to school at Mira Mesa College and in his free time, he enjoys painting. His favorite movie is Ice Age and his favorite animals are box turtles. He is excited to watch his students grow in the water.

Hunter

Hunter has been swimming since he was 4 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. His parents were both competitive swimmers and he began swimming competitively through high school. He has 1 year of previous swim teaching experience for all ages. Additionally, he has childcare experience as a volunteer and summer camp counselor. Some of his hobbies include snowboarding and getting his pilot's license. He is excited to help his students overcome their fear of the water.

Issac

Issac has been swimming since he was 7 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the breaststroke. He has childcare experience as a STEM teacher. He is currently studying math and some of his hobbies include working out and reading. He is excited to help his students become more confident.

Jadah

Jasmine

Jasmine has been swimming since she was 9 years old and swam almost everyday growing up on Catalina Island. She swam with the junior lifeguards and has childcare experience as a peewee basketball coach for 2 years. Some of her hobbies include drawing and painting. She is excited to help her students meet their goals.

Jeffrey

Jeffrey has been swimming since he was 7 years old and his favorite stroke to teach others is backstroke. In addition to swimming, he has learned how to kayak and paddleboard. He has over 2 years of experience working with kids of all ages with special needs as a horse-riding instructor. Additionally, he worked as an assistant for a cross country coach. He goes to school at CSU Fullerton where he is studying kinesiology. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, being around his friends and playing Frisbee golf. He is excited to show his students how exciting the water can be.

Jessy

Jessy has been swimming since she was 6 years old and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the backstroke. She has childcare experience as an afterschool counselor. She goes to school at PCC where she is studying art. Some of her hobbies include reading and hiking. She is excited to leave an impression on each student.

John

John has been swimming since he was 3 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the backstroke. He has experience working with kids as a children's sports counselor. Some of his hobbies include baking and being with his family. His favorite movie is Cars and his favorite animals are dogs. He is excited to help his students overcome their fear of the water.

Kimberly

Kimberly began swimming at the age of three and has been swimming ever since. As a swim instructor for the past twenty years, Kimberly has extensive experience when it comes to teaching swimming lessons. Her favorite stroke is Freestyle and her favorite event is the 100 Individual Medley. She is currently attending East Los Angeles College where she is studying Liberal Arts. Some of her hobbies include swimming, reading, writing, and movie nights with her family.

Lois

Lois has been swimming since she was a baby and went on to swim competitively for 6 years for a youth swim team and for her high school's swim team. Her favorite event to swim is the 100 breaststroke and her favorite stroke to teach her students is the freestyle. She has experience teaching her younger family members how to swim and has several years of childcare experience. She goes to school at AADA where she is studying acting. Some of her hobbies include writing and listening to music. She is excited to see her students advance in their skills.

Loraly

Loraly has been swimming since she was 4 years old and swam competitively for 1 year. She has experience working in the water as a pool supervisor for a summer camp. Additionally, she has 2 years of childcare experience as a camp counselor and babysitter. She goes to school at Glendale Community College and in her free time she enjoys cooking and sewing. She is excited to help her students become confident swimmers.

Lucy

Lucy has 4 years of competitive swim experience and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has childcare experience as a summer camp volunteer for 3 years. Some of her hobbies include dancing and learning about different cultures. She is excited to build bonds with each of her students.

Makayla

Makayla swam competitively for a youth swim club for 2 years. She has worked as a lifeguard and as an assistant swim instructor. Additionally, she has childcare experience as a summer camp counselor and as a babysitter. She goes to school for kinesiology and some of her hobbies include cheer and line dancing. She has a passion for working with kids of all ages.

Mariana

Mariana has been swimming since she was 7 years old and her favorite stroke to swim is the freestyle. She has experience snorkeling and free diving and has childcare experience as a student teacher. Some of her hobbies include hiking and snowboarding. She is excited to see each student's swim progress.

Megan

Megan swam competitively for her high school’s swim team and make it to the varsity team. She worked as the Waterfront Director for YMCA, where she would train and manage a group of lifeguards. She has previous experience working at Waterworks for 5 years where she would teach kids and adults of all ages. Megan went to school for child development and went on to work in child care. Her favorite Disney character is Ariel and she loves cats. She is excited to help her students build their confidence in the water.

Melanie

Mel has been swimming since she was 8 years old and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the breaststroke. She has previous experience working as a lifeguard and earned her CPR and AED certifications. She has previous experience working as a swim instructor here at Waterworks for 2 years. Additionally, she has 2 years of childcare experience. She goes to school at CSU San Bernardino where she is studying psychology. Some of her hobbies include reading and listening to music. She is excited to help her students learn about water safety.

Mia

Mia has been swimming since she was 3 years old. Her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the backstroke. She has previous experience working with kids and students with special needs. She goes to school at Pasadena City College where she is studying nursing. Her favorite movie is Tangled and her favorite animals are cats. She has a passion for helping her students become more confident swimmers.

Nadia

Nadia has been swimming since she was 7 years old and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the backstroke. She prides herself on her patience and passion for helping others. She goes to school for philosophy and some of her hobbies include hiking and journaling. She is excited to help her students become more confident swimmers.

Natalia

Natalia has been swimming since she was 4 years old. She swam on a youth swim team for 1 year and swam during her time in the girl scouts. She has 2 years of childcare experience as an after school program volunteer. She went to school to study neuroscience and some of her hobbies include reading and playing sports. She is excited to help her students become comfortable in the water.

Nicholas

Nicholas has been swimming since he was 9 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. He has childcare experience as an art teacher's assistant. He goes to school at CSU Northridge where he is studying entertainment management. Some of his hobbies include weightlifting and playing piano. He has a passion for helping others learn new skills.

Pamela

Pam started swimming when she was five years old after taking swim lessons. Her favorite stroke to swim is backstroke and she has a lot of experience play different sports. She taught her younger cousin how to swim and coached high school soccer, cross country and track and field. She enjoys running, reading and hiking. Her favorite Disney movie is Hercules and her favorite book is Inkheart. She is excited to splash around in the water with her students and show them how fun swim lessons are.

Pearl

Pearl grew up swimming almost everyday and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She earned her first aid and lifesaving skills certification and has worked in the water as a deck guard for 3 years. Some of her hobbies include drawing and spending time outdoors. She is excited to help her students become confident swimmers.

Poncho

Poncho has been swimming since he was 6 years old and his favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. He has 2 years of childcare experience as an English tutor and babysitter. He goes to school at USC where he is studying production. Some of his hobbies include music and theatre. He is excited to help his students achieve their swim goals.

Rachel

Rachel learned how to swim when she was five years old. She started swimming competitively from the Armada swim team when she was thirteen. In high school, she swam for the varsity school swim team for three years. Her favorite strokes to teach are freestyle and backstroke and her favorite event to swim is the 200 free. She has experience watching after her younger family members, ages 2 weeks to 3 years old. She is passionate about art and enjoys knitting blankets. She is excited to watch her students improve and become independent in the water.

Sarah

Sarah has been swimming since she was a baby and began swimming competitively in high school. She played water polo and continues to swim at the collegiate level for University of La Verne. Her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has previous experience teaching swim lessons to kids and adults of all ages and has coached high school water polo and swim teams. She goes to school at Citrus College where she is studying elementary education. Some of her hobbies include going to the beach and visiting Disneyland. She has a passion for teaching others about water safety.

Stephani C.

Stephani has been swimming since she was 6 years old and has a passion for helping her friends and family members learn how to swim. She has 10 years of childcare experience as a daycare worker, classroom assistant and cheer coach. Some of her hobbies include doing hot yoga and watching movies. She is excited to see all of her students become stronger swimmers!

Stephanie G.

Stephanie has been swimming since she was 4 years old and swam competitively on her high school's swim team. Her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has several years of childcare experience as a kids workshop teacher and babysitter. She goes to school at Pasadena City College where she is studying graphic design. Some of her hobbies include art and eating Japanese food. She is excited to help her students learn new skills.

Thomas

Thomas has been swimming since he was 3 years old by taking swim lessons here at Waterworks! His favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. He has experience in the water as a lifeguard for a youth summer swim camp. Additionally, he has childcare experience as a babysitter and tutor. Some of his hobbies include reading fantasy books and learning about other countries. He is excited to help his students learn new skills.

Triana

Triana has been swimming since her was 5 years old and took several years of swim lessons to perfect her swim technique. She has childcare experience as a babysitter and as a basketball coach assistant. She goes to school at Cal Poly Pomona where she is studying civil engineering. She is excited to show her students how fun the water can be.

Yudit

Yudit swam on her high school's swim team for all 4 years and her favorite event to compete in is the 100 free. As team captain, she led her team to the first round of CIF each year. She has experience working with kids as a daycare worker and a babysitter. She goes to school at Mt. SAC where she is studying psychology and has taken several child development courses. Some of her hobbies include making playlists, going to the beach and working out. Her favorite movie is Finding Nemo and her favorite book is Where The Red Fern Grows. She is excited to help her students build their confidence in the water.
