Instructors

Brenda

Brenda has been swimming competitively since she was a kid and was on both water polo and swim teams. She has experience working with kids as young as 1 year old and loves to communicate with kids. She goes to school at LACC where she is studying nursing and has taken early childhood development courses. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach and reading. Her favorite movie is Spirited Away and her favorite animals are cats. Her favorite part about teaching is seeing her students’ progress.

Diego

Diego has been swimming since she was 6 years old and swam on a youth swim team until high school and she began swimming for her high school's water polo team. She was named MVP on her water polo team and swam with the junior lifeguards. She has experience in the water as a lifeguard for 2 years and has childcare experience as a basketball instructor and soccer camp counselor. Some of her hobbies include playing sports and learning about cars. She is excited to help her students learn new skills.

Edgar

Edgar swam for the men’s swim team for 2 years and swam in water polo when he was 16. Edgar likes to perform and teach the breaststroke. His favorite event is the 50 Freestyle. He has experience teaching freshmen how to swim. Edgar has worked with kids of all ages at a home daycare with his mom. Edgar’s favorite hobbies are painting, watching movies and spending time with friends and family. He is very enthusiastic, optimistic and patient. Overall, Edgar is extroverted, outgoing and passionate about teaching swim lessons.

Luke

Luke has been swimming since he was 4 years old and swam on a club swim team for 2 years. His favorite stroke to swim and teach his students is the freestyle. In addition to swimming, he has competed in fencing, soccer and rowing. He has experience working with kids as a summer camp counselor and as a tutor. He goes to school at Santa Monica College where he is studying accounting. His favorite movie is Aladdin and his favorite animals are boxers. He is excited to help his students overcome their fear of the water.

Makana

Makana was raised in Hawaii and has been swimming and surfing since he was 2 years old. He swam competitively for several years and his favorite event to compete in is the 100 butterfly. He goes to school at Santa Monica College where he is studying accounting. Some of his hobbies include surfing and snowboarding. He is excited to share his passion for swimming with his students.

Matthew

Nadia (sub)

Nadia has been swimming since she was 5 years old and her favorite stroke to swim and teach her students is the freestyle. She has experience in the water as a lifeguard for 2 years as well as teaching swim lessons to all ages for 2 years. She goes to school at Pasadena City College where she is studying education. Her favorite food is chicken alfredo and her favorite animals are dogs. She has a passion for helping her students learn new skills.
